授業の目的 |
This course will offer an introduction to various recent issuesin English criminal law. Students will be required to read different kinds of legal and non-legal materials such as cases, government reports, and newspaper articles. Class discussion will be strongly encouraged. The aim of the cause will be to improve legal English language skills as well as introducing students to some of the key features of the English legal system.
No prior knowledge of English law is necessary.

授業の概要・計画 |
The materials to be discussed will be determined in the first class according to student interest. Possible topics include some of the following issues: the proposed ban on fox-hunting; the anti-stalking law; euthanasia in English criminal law; recent case law concering domestic violence; child abduction; surrrogacy in English law; the criminal prosecution of Princess Diana’s former butler; vigilante justice in Northern Ireland; racism in English criminal justice; the jury system in cases where the victim / accused is famous; the appointment of English judges. |

Photocopies of all required readings will be handed out each week. A handout will provide any necessary background information and references for further reading |

Students will be assessed based on the following criteria:
