授業の目的 |
This course has three objectives:
1. To introduce students to some interesting current law cases in English and US law. This semester cases will focus on family law, specifically cases involving international marriage, divorce and child abduction. The cases will focus, in particular, on the effect of the 1980 Hague Convention on International Child Abduction.
2. To develop students legal vocabulary and ability to discuss the law in English. Please note: this class is taught in English.
3. To help students improve their general reading and listening comprehension skills in English.

The topics to be discussed will be finalized in the first class after discussion with the students.

授業の進め方 |
Each week students will receive an assigned reading. The reading will normally be 3-4 A4 pages and are taken from English newspapers or court judgments. Students are expected to complete the readings before the next class. The class will be interactive and all students will be expected to participate in class discussion.
Please note: this class will be taught entirely in English. |
教科書・参考書等 |
There is no set textbook for the course. Each week students will receive the designated readings for the following weeks class. The readings will be either from newspaper articles or court judgments. |
成績評価の方法・基準 |
Class assessment will be based on class performance (30%) and a final report (70%). The final report must be written on one of the topics discussed in the class. The deadline for the class paper will be confirmed at a later time.
Please note: the final report must also be written in English. |
