Students must attend a 90 minute class every week and discuss law materials in English. A final report must also be submitted at the end of the course.

This course has two main objectives:

1. To teach students practical legal English by reading and discussing English language law materials;

2. To provide an introduction to some of the basic concepts of US and English law. The primary focus of the class will be on medical law.

The main topics for this class will include -

1. Euthanasia
2. Assisted Suicide
3. In Vitro Fertilization
4. Organ Transplants
5. Transsexuals
6. Cloning
7. Siamese twins
8. Informed consent

Students must write a short report at the end of the semester.

There is no set textbook for this class.

Every week students will be given some short readings in English.

The class readings will be newspaper articles or court judgments.

Students will also be provided with translations in Japanese of some key words.
