Course Title |
Legal English in a White Collar Crime Context |
Course Overview |
This course will make the students read "The Art of the Steal" in order to familiarize students with legal English terminology. |
履修条件 |
Confidence to read and discuss legal issues in English. |
授業の目的 |
This class will introduce students to reading, understanding, summarizing and presenting texts in English. To achieve this goal, we will use the book “The Art of the Steal”. This book is a popular account of a cartel concluded between two auction houses: Sotheby’s and Christie’s. The fact that it is a popular account means that students are not confronted with a “dry” legal text, but with a vivid description of the background behind a serious economic crime: cartel formation.
Since this is a class for students of a law faculty, a secondary aim of the class is to identify and understand legal terminology. |
