Course Title |
English in a Legal Context |
Course Overview |
This class will introduce students to reading, understanding, summarizing and presenting texts in English. To achieve this goal, we will use the book “The Art of the Steal.”
|
履修条件 |
An interest in reading books in English. |
授業の目的 |
The fact that it is a popular account means that students are not confronted with a “dry” legal text, but with a vivid description of the background behind a serious economic crime: cartel formation.
Since this is a class for students of a law faculty, a secondary aim of the class is to identify and understand legal terminology.
|
授業の概要・計画 |
The book “The Art of the Steal” consists of 30 chapters. Each week two chapters will be discussed. Two students will be appointed to do so. Other students are encouraged to also read the chapters in order to give comments or ask questions. At the end of the class, students are required to submit a short review (summary) of the book. |
授業の進め方 |
Each week, (two) different students are expected to present two chapters out of the book “The Art of the Steal”. Each chapter is about 4 to 7 pages. The students appointed to present are expected to read their respective chapter(s), prepare a PowerPoint and present the chapter.
