| 授業の目的 |
The overall goal of this course is to improve compentency and confidence in using legal English in the context of an international legal environment in which English is oftenthe common means of commmunication. This overarching objective will be achieved by focusing on: 1. Developing core law related English language skills, namely (i) explaining law related issues to non-lawyers in English, (ii) negotiating legal agreements and (iii) legal writing. In order to achieve these goals, this course will deal with a broad range of law-related topics in English. 2. Developing legal knowledge by studying selected topical legal problems from diverse fields of law. |
| 履修条件 |
The outcomes of the course will be to provide the students with basic communication skills in legal English. Although there are no particular conditions set for those who will take the course, in order to ensure the outcomes, the students should have an interest in using English for their future career. |

| 授業の概要 |
本コースでは、様々な法分野におけるテーマについて考察する。 英語技能の4要素（読解、作文、会話、リスニング）の向上に焦点を当て、各クラス所定の教材に基づき、英語のみでネイティブにより授業が行われる。 |
| 授業の概要(英語) |
The course examines various topical issues from selected fields of law. This semester topics will be taken from medical law and financial law. Each class will be given by a native English speaking professor. The course will be conducted exclusively in English based on the prescribed class materials, and will focus on improving all the four elements of English proficiency (namely reading, writing, listening, speaking). |

| 授業の進め方 |
The course focuses on improving students' English in reading and writing legal documents and oral communications in legal negotiations. In this regard, the course will be conducted in a lecture-style. The students are sometimes requested to write a legal document in English in the classroom. |

There will be no textbook. Class materials will be provided on a week-to-week basis. |

Class attendance and class participation: 30 % Final Report 70 % |
| 事前学習 |
The students are highly recommended to read through the class materials prior to each session. |

Short writing assignments will be given from time to time. |
