Welcome to the webpage for Kyushu University’s Annual Alumni Symposium for the International Graduate of Law Programs.

The success of last year’s Alumni Symposium encouraged us to make this event an annual affair. It is our hope that this event, along with our new alumni webpage and Kyushu University’s expanding network of alumni associations overseas, will help maintain the valuable friendships that our students develop during their time at KyuDai.

The “KyuDai Mafia”, as my colleagues in the Doctor of Laws Program used to affectionately call it, now exceeds 200 alumni, on 6 continents, in approximately 30 countries. Each of our more than 200 alumni has assumed a high-level professional position either in their home country or in a different part of the world. This made it a difficult task to choose just a few to present at this year’s symposium. If it would have been possible, we would have liked to have invited you all.

The speakers for this year are: Mr. Ding (LL.M, 1997), Mr. Javier (YLP, 2002), and Dr. von Campenhausen (LL.M, 1997). What do the three invited alumni have in common? All work in high-ranking positions in sophisticated governmental organizations. Mr. Ding, with his experience negotiating the Hague Securities Convention on behalf of Hong Kong, will explain this Convention form a unique perspective. Mr. Javier, having worked for 10 years in the Supreme Court of the Philippines, will enlighten us on the issue of universal criminal jurisdiction. Dr. von Campenhausen, from his experience as a policy officer, will tell us about the law making process of the E.U.

The lineup of speakers and events is truly exciting. We invite you to further explore this webpage to learn more about the symposium. We look forward to receiving your registration.

Warmest regards,
