AIMS OF THE PROGRAM



FOSTERING EXPERTS BRIDGING ASEAN AND JAPAN

This project of Kyushu University - Faculty of Law, aims to foster experts bridging ASEAN and Japan who value universal principles whilst understanding local diversities through the development of a legal mind. A comprehensive cooperative program with four leading universities in ASEAN, namely the National University of Singapore, University of Malaya, Chulalongkorn University, and Ateneo de Manila University, including short-term and semester-length exchanges as well as double degree programs. In addidtion, we will establish an alumni association of the project, comprised of Japanese students and ASEAN students, and coordinate with the alumni association of the MEXT Young Leaders Programs (YLP), under which we have been accepting Asian legal professionals since 2002.


SPIRAL MODEL EXCHANGE PROGRAMS

Short-term Exchange --- Gate Way to the SEND Program


This primarily consists of three activities focusing on "Conflict Management", "Cultural Heritage & Cultural Identity", and "Cool Japan Policy", namely 1. A training program (including training of local languages and Japanese teaching support); 2. Joint seminars with the students of Law and Japanese Studies at the partner institutions; 3. Workshop at local high schools on three topics (adopting a "spiral approach"), designed mainly for undergraduate students. It includes an internship at local entities and Japanese teaching support.

Semester Exchange and Double Degree Program

Designed mainly for students who have experienced the Short-term exchange (the "upstream spiral"), the program will be supported by a consortium of all partner universities miltilaterally. It includes an internship at local entities and Japanese teaching support for a longer period.
