Scholars are to meet for two days at Kyushu University in Fukuoka City, Japan to exchange views on meditation in Asia. Mediation scholars from Asian countries will be joined by two distinguished personalities, Prof. Lela Love of Cardoso Law School in New York and Daniel Weitz, Esq. who is State Coordinator of the Office of ADR Programs of the New York State Unified Court System, Office of Court Administration, who were invited to contribute in making the discussion more in-depth. The Law Faculty of Kyushu University will host the conference and make sure that the discussions will be carried out in a most comfortable manner.

For a smooth operation of the conference, a steering committee was created whose members include Prof. G Wang, currently dean of the School of Law, City University of Hong Kong; Prof. Park of Korea University who is Vice-president of the Korean Society of Mediation Studies; and Prof. Kobayashi-Levin of Kyushu University, an active practitioner in giving mediation training in Japan.

The members of this Round-Table Conference are planning to meet once a year for three years starting in 2010 and ending in 2012. For the year 2010, the scheduled meeting will be held on August 30 and 31. After the three conferences, it is hoped that the picture of how mediation in Asia will look like will be clearer, and that the members will be able to give useful contributions in making mediation more useful for the general public in Asia.
