Gerald Paul McAlinn is a tenured professor of law at Keio Law School, Tokyo. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, and holds a B.A. degree in Sociology (Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa) from Temple University, a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and an LL.M. in Public International Law from Trinity College, University of Cambridge. He clerked for two years for the Hon. A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr., Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and then worked as a corporate law associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in LA. He moved to Tokyo in 1984 and worked as a foreign lawyer at a leading Japanese law firm (Anderson Mori), and as regional counsel for ARCO Chemical Asia Pacific Nippon Motorola, Ltd.

Professor McAlinn entered academia on a full-time basis in 1993, as a Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo, and as an Associate Professor of Temple Law School and the founding Director of the Law Program in Japan. He became a tenured professor of law at Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo in 1995, where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses until March of 2004. From April of 2004, Professor McAlinn moved to Keio Law School where he teaches a year-long workshop on international business transactions, and courses on US Constitutional Law, Legal Debate, Multinational Corporations and Governance, and Corporate Governance and Risk Management. His latest edited book, entitled Japanese Business Law (Kluwer Law International, 2007) is scheduled for release in November of 2007. He is also the co-author of An Introduction to American Law (Carolina Academic Press, NC, 2005), the co-editor, along with Professor Kenneth L. Port, of Comparative Law: Japan and the Legal Process 2nd edition (Carolina Academic Press, NC, 2003), and the general editor of The Business Guide to Japan (Reed Butterworth, Singapore, 1996).
