Sukhbaatar Sumiya holds LL.M. from Kyushu University (2004) and LL.B. from National University of Ukraine (1999). In his current research (2005-present), he is focusing on the problem of the rule of law in post-Soviet societies by doing in-depth case studies on Mongolia , Ukraine and Russia .

Past employments include a teaching position at National University School of Law, Mongolia (1999-2000; 2004-2005), a translator/assistant to CEO of the Agricultural Bank of Mongolia , a successful USAID-funded external management project (2001-2003), and a staff member at the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs of Mongolia (2000).

Key research interest is law & development theory and practice as applied to transitional countries with a special focus on the former Soviet Union republics.
