Dan W. Puchniak
Dan Puchniak is an LL.D. Candidate at Kyushu University focusing on comparative and Japanese corporate governance. Prior to returning to Kyushu University, he spent several years as a litigation associate at Torys LLP in Toronto representing clients in complex corporate/commercial and shareholder disputes, product liability claims, class actions and pharmaceutical patent proceedings. Dan earned his B.A. from the University of Manitoba, Canada, and law degrees from the University of Victoria, Canada (LL.B.), and Kyushu University, Japan (LL.M.). He is a member of the Ontario Bar.

Dan’s most recent publication is a critique of Professors Miwa and Ramseyer’s controversial free-market theory of Japanese corporate governance, entitled: “ Perverse Main Bank Rescue in the Lost Decade: Proof that Unique Institutional Incentives Drive Japanese Corporate Governance” (forthcoming in Pacific Rim Law & Policy Journal, Vol. 16, No. 1, January 2007). He will be teaching a course on Japanese Corporate Governance as part of the Asian Law Summer Program at the University of Victoria this summer.
