Born and raised in Fukuoka and living in the beach area near the campus, she is the one to ask about the locality. She studied in Munich, Rome and Oxford while obtaining bachelor's master's and doctor's degrees in law from Kyushu University. She taught Civil Law at Ehime University from April 1996 to March 2002 and joined the Faculty of Law at Kyushu University from April 2002. Her field of research is Roman Law and Comparative Law from the perspective of Roman Law. She believes in the vertical (i.e. in timeline, historical) and horizontal (i.e. contemporary, geographical) universality of jurisprudence.
