Peter LEE
Assistant Professor of International Business Law  
AREAS OF RESEARCH
Maritime Law; E-Commerce Law; Private International Law

Peter Lee is Assistant Professor of International Business Law. His primary research interests focus on the impact of evolving electronic records and technological applications within the sphere of maritime trade (e.g. blockchain trade documents, autonomous ships, etc.) on legal developments. He is also engaged in studying various issues related to private international law and its harmonization. His recent publications cover: "Assessment of Legal Instruments and Applicability to the Use of Electronic Bills of Lading" (Journal of Korea Trade (SSCI), 2020); "Blockchain Bills of Lading: A New Generation of Electronic Transport Documents" (Comparative Maritime Law, 2022); "Towards Global Legal Recognition of Electronic Trade Documents" (Texas Int'l Law Journal, 2024); and "Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Korea" (Hart Publishing, 2019). Peter received his LL.M. and LL.D. from Kyushu University in 2013 and 2017, respectively, under the MEXT (Japanese Government) scholarship. He also completed a research program on commercial maritime law at Korea University in 2021. Prior to his appointment at Kyushu University in 2020, he served as a lecturer on international transport and payment at Pusan National University. Additionally, he conducted research on project management at Seoul National University. He has also been actively engaged in the work of international legal education, serving as the Teaching Associate of the Global Vantage (undergraduate) Program in university.
